Our beloved Mr. Gienke
February 28, 1928 - June 16, 2018

Roy Carl Gienke, 90, of Medina, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Western Reserve Masonic Community after a short illness. He was born February 28, 1928 in Valley City.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (nee Meyerholtz); as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva (nee Armentrout) and Arthur Gienke; sister, Genevieve Aylard and brother, Robert Gienke.

Roy served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he spent time in Hawaii and Germany. He graduated with a MA in Education from Kent State University. His entire career was spent in the Highland School District where he taught, coached and was Principal at the elementary and middle school levels.

In retirement, Roy and Mary attended numerous Elderhostel programs throughout the U.S. and in Europe. They also enjoyed cruises in the Caribbean Sea. He was a cherished member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Medina Kiwanis Club, where he enjoyed various activities with both organizations.

A celebration of life service will be held for Roy in the coming weeks, with service details to be announced in the near future. A private Military burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial gift to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Medina.
